About Breathworks

Breathworks is one of the world's leading mindfulness organisation, operating in 35 countries. Its founder Vidyamala Burch developed the Mindfulness Based Pain Management (MBPM) to help her cope with severe pain and health complications following two major spinal injuries. The course has been backed with huge amounts of research, and has changed the lives of thousands of people.

Course benefits

Most people completing an eight-week Breathworks Mindfulness for Health course report lasting benefits including a greater capacity to manage their health symptoms through pacing and experience increased calm, confidence, energy, enthusiasm and appreciation of life.

The underlying principle of MBPM is that we are already whole and that by practising mindfulness and compassion we can rediscover our wholeness.

Through guided meditation, group discussion, experiential activities and supported home practice you will be introduced to a number of simple yet powerful mindfulness practices by Breathworks certified teacher, Tammy.

Many people completing the course report a boost in psychological and physical well-being and find new sources of resilience, joy, kindness and calm to cope better with the stresses and strains of daily life.

Course content includes:

  • The skill of meditation and how to practise
  • How mindfulness is central to helping you manage and live well with pain, stress and chronic health conditions
  • How to dwell in the present moment and breathe into painful or difficult experience
  • Breath awareness and its power to transform and dissolve tension and pain
  • The role of the breath in reconnecting mind and body (usually very much disconnected in chronic pain sufferers)
  • Complementary mindful movement practices promoting further mind-body awareness
  • The role of compassion and kindness in pain relief and managing chronic health conditions
  • How to increase appreciation of the simple pleasures in life
  • Mindfulness skills for your daily life
  • Pacing your activities and learning how to recognise and break the ‘boom and bust’ cycle

On this course you will receive:

  • Eight weeks of lessons - more than 20 hours of class time
  • Breathworks Mindfulness for Health workbook
  • Weekly emails during the course
